From Rotoworld: Nelson turned in a beautiful complete game in Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Padres, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out 10. The only run on his line came home on an RBI single by Erick Aybar in the fifth inning. He finished up nine innings of work having thrown 118 pitches (81 strikes). Through 14 starts, the 28-year-old right-hander is pitching to a 3.39 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 85/21 K/BB ratio across 85 innings. He will try for more of the same when he hits the road for a showdown with the Braves next time he toes the rubber. That one could potentially see him with a bit of a shorter leash pitch count-wise given the 118 he threw on Sunday.
Foltynewicz held the Marlins to two runs over six innings Sunday in a no-decision. Folty posted zeros until the top of the sixth, when the Marlins scored two runs on a walk and four singles. The win went to Braves closer Jim Johnson, who worked a scoreless top of the ninth and gave way for Brandon Phillips’ walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Foltynewicz will bring a 4.26 ERA into his next start at home versus the Brewers.
