From Rotoworld: Blach hurled the first shutout, and first complete game, of his major league career on Friday, limiting the Phillies to seven singles over nine terrific innings. Blach struck out four and didn’t walk a batter in the contest. The Giants’ staked him to an early lead and he responded by pounding the strike zone and getting plenty of easy outs, needing just 112 pitches to complete the game. Blach also did work at the plate in this one, drawing three walks and scoring a pair of runs. He has been a godsend to the Giants in the wake of the Madison Bumgarner injury. Now 4-2 on the season, Blach will carry an impressive 3.24 ERA and 1.11 WHIP into Wednesday’s matchup against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Nelson blanked the Dodgers over eight innings and matched a career-high with 11 strikeouts on Friday, but was handed a no-decision. Nelson outdueled Clayton Kershaw and left the game in position for the victory, but Corey Knebel blew the save in the ninth. While it didn’t end like he was hoping, Nelson was brilliant for a second straight start, allowing just five hits while walking none. He has now allowed just one run in 15 innings over his last two starts while striking out 21 batters and walking one.
