From Rotoworld: Jimenez turned in a gem Thursday, allowing just two hits over eight shutout innings in the Orioles’ 2-0 win over the Blue Jays. One start after getting torched by the Rays in an abbreviated outing, Jimenez stymied the Jays offense over his eight innings, giving up only a pair of doubles and a walk while striking out eight. It’s been a Jekyll and Hyde act for the 33-year-old this year and for much of the past few years, who owns a 6.48 ERA and 1.48 WHIP over 16 appearances, including 11 starts. Now back in the rotation, Jimenez will next face off against the Brewers in an interleague matchup next Tuesday.
Nelson struck out 11 Reds batters over seven innings, allowing two runs in a win Thursday. Nelson surrendered just three hits and a walk, with both runs coming on Joey Votto solo homers. Votto aside, Nelson was terrific, striking out every other Reds hitter at least once, except Homer Bailey, who wasn’t around long enough to give Nelson much of a chance. The win was his third in his last four decisions dating back to May 28, moving him to 6-4 with a 3.43 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 104/25 K/BB ratio over 16 starts. An unfamiliar foe awaits Nelson on Tuesday, when the Orioles come to town for interleague play.
