From Rotoworld: Bumgarner allowed one run on four hits over seven innings in Wednesday’s 3-1 win over the Cubs. Bumgarner was up to his accustomed brilliance in this one, striking out seven and walking just one. The only run to score on his watch came when Albert Almora Jr. bopped a solo home run off the ace in the third inning. Mad-Bum finished up his afternoon’s work having thrown an economical 92 pitches (69 strikes). He has surrendered just four runs in his last four starts (26 innings) and will try to keep this roll going in a road start against the Marlins next time he takes to the mound.
Straily allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Nationals. Straily gave up four hits and a walk while striking out two, allowing both runs in the sixth inning before exiting. It was the third straight start in which Straily has kept his opponent to two runs, but he’s 0-2 in that span and has lost four straight decisions. His last win came on July 7. Record aside, the 28-year-old has a strong 3.74 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 24 starts. He’ll look to improve on that 7-8 record Tuesday against the lowly Giants.
