Neither Willson Contreras nor Javier Baez were in the Cubs’ lineup before the game was rained out yesterday. Utility man Ben Zobrist was set to start at second base and bat cleanup, while Miguel Montero was going to catch Lackey. Baez is 1-for-7 with an RBI through his first two games.
After suffering a nasty trip around the bases on Tuesday night in which he was struck in both elbows by a pitch and a throw to second, then hit in the head by an errant throw by Baez while trying to score, Stephen Piscotty has passed all his concussion tests. He said he would have been available to pinch hit for the Cardinals if the club played yesterday.
Bet Today’s Cubs vs. Cardinals Game
OUR PICK: The Cardinals couldn’t figure out Jake Arrieta on Tuesday night in a 2-1 loss but they’re already playing better defense to start the new season than they did a year ago. Lynn is returning from Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2016, but he had a good spring and is fully recovered. The Cards offer bettors nice value as a home underdog in what has already been a tight series.
