MLB Predictions: Will Cardinals complete sweep of Phillies? 6/22/17

Cardinals vs. Phillies Prediction

Will the Cardinals complete their sweep of the Phillies when the two teams wrap up their series today at 1:05PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Cardinals are -155 money line favorites versus the Phillies, who have odds of +135 to pull off the upset at home. With Carlos Martinez set to face Aaron Nola in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8.5 runs.

From Rotoworld: Martinez was dominant in Friday’s victory over the Orioles, racking up eight strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball. The star right-hander scattered four hits and three walks in the ballgame. The only blemish on his night was a sacrifice fly off the bat of Manny Machado in the third inning. After throwing a complete game his last time out, and with the Cardinals providing ample run support, the Cardinals were able to give him a breather in this one by pulling him out after just 92 pitches. He’ll carry an impressive 2.86 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 107/33 K/BB ratio into Thursday’s start against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Nola struggled in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Friday, surrendering five runs on nine hits in six-plus innings of work. Nola walked two and punched out six on the night. He entered the sixth inning with a 4-2 advantage, but that’s where the wheels fell off. He surrendered a two-run homer to Gregor Blanco and a single to David Peralta before he was lifted, the latter of which came around to score the go-ahead run. Now 3-5 on the season, he’ll carry a 4.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP into Thursday’s matchup against the Cardinals.

Bet Today’s Cardinals vs. Phillies Game

OUR PREDICTION: The Cardinals have won four of their last five games in Philadelphia and have won 21 of their last 29 games versus the Phillies overall. They have also won seven of Martinez’s last 10 starts, are 21-8 in his last 29 outings when he’s coming off five days of rest, and are 13-3 in their last 16 games versus NL East opponents. On the other side, the Phillies are just 1-5 in Nola’s last six starts and 1-5 in his last six home outings.
