From Rotoworld: Leake gave up five runs — four earned — and 11 hits in five innings against the Royals on Wednesday. Leake thrived thanks to a low BABIP in the first two months. Now he has allowed 54 hits and 28 runs (19 earned) over 33 2/3 innings in his last seven starts. All of that early good fortune seemed like it was due to catch up to him.
Porcello allowed two runs in six-plus innings and led his squad to an 8-2 win over the Rays on Wednesday. He kept Tampa Bay off the scoreboard through five frames before allowing a pair of solo home runs in the sixth. He went back out for the seventh and allowed the first two batters to reach base before being relieved. Reliever Matt Barnes was able to prevent both runners from scoring. Porcello surrendered just four total hits and two walks while punching out seven in the quality start. Last year he went 22-4 and won the American League Cy Young Award, but this year he is just 6-14 with a 4.63 ERA in 24 starts.
Bet Tonight’s Cardinals vs. Red Sox Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Cardinals have won eight of their last nine games, are 4-0 in their last four road games, and are 7-1 in their last eight games versus a right-handed starter. On the other side, the Red Sox are just 1-5 in Porcello’s last six home starts versus a team with a winning record, are 1-7 in his last eight outings versus a team with a winning record, and are winless at 0-7 in his last seven outings following a quality start in his last appearance.
