Lynn allowed two runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Cubs last Thursday in his return from Tommy John surgery. He struck out four batters, walked one, and was in line to pick up the win before Kyle Schwarber took reliever Brett Cecil deep in the seventh inning. The Cardinals blew a 4-1 lead in that game to fall 6-4 to their NL Central rivals.
Gonzalez threw six shutout innings last Thursday, allowing seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. He didn’t factor in the decision, last he Nationals lost in extra-innings versus the Marlins. Gonzalez threw 57 of 90 pitches for strikes but worked out of jams to keep the Nationals in the game.
Bet Tonight’s Cardinals vs. Nationals Game
OUR PICK: The Cardinals have issues. Their defense hasn’t been good for two years now and they continue to make big errors or gaffs in critical situations in games. In their 11-5 loss last night, Kolten Wong made an error on a throw to second base that would have been the start of a double play. St. Louis’ bullpen is also off to a horrible start, as Cecil has been a disaster since signing a big deal this offseason. The Cards are just 2-7 in their last nine games against the Nationals, should win again tonight.
