From Rotoworld: Wacha notched a season-high-tying nine strikeouts while yielding two runs over 5 2/3 frames in Thursday’s 4-3 win over the Marlins. It’s his second straight outing with nine punchouts. Wacha permitted six hits on the day along with issuing a pair of free passes. The right-hander will head into the All-Star break on a high note, as he’s pitched well in each of his last three outings.
Montero surrendered four runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings in Sunday’s loss to the Phillies. A four-run second inning proved to be Montero’s undoing in this one. In that frame, he coughed up a two-run single to Maikel Franco and an RBI single to Andrew Knapp. Knapp would later come home on a wild pitch to polish off the inning’s scoring. Montero will carry a 5.63 ERA and 1.88 WHIP (17 appearances, four starts) into a home showdown with the Padres next time he takes to the mound.
