Jake Arrieta held the Cardinals to one unearned run over six innings of work in Tuesday’s win for the Cubs. He struck out six while allowing just four singles and a couple of walks in the victory. Wade Davis also picked up his first save as a Cub despite issuing a walk and Jason Heyward went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in the 2-1 victory.
Following a rough spring, Adam Wainwright was effective in his 2017 debut, allowing two runs over five innings while striking out six. He rank into trouble in the fourth inning and was lifted for a pinch hitter following the fifth, but it was an encouraging sign for Wainwright and the Cardinals that his debut went well. Stephen Piscotty was forced to leave the game in the fifth inning when he was struck in the head by an Anthony Rizzo throw to home plate. Piscotty scored, but didn’t return and is now day-to-day.
Bet Today’s Cubs vs. Cardinals Game
OUR PICK: Lynn will make his first start since 2015 after missing all of last season following Tommy John Surgery. He had the surgery almost immediately following the 2015 season so he’s fully recovered and was able to have a full spring training. While he might need to shake off the rust, he should pitch well today in his return. As for Lackey, he surrendered seven hits and seven runs over just 3 2/3 innings versus the A’s last Wednesday in his final tune-up for the regular season. If that performance is any indication of how Lackey will fare today, the Cardinals have value with plus odds at home.
