From Rotoworld: Locke surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings and took a loss to the Mets on Wednesday. All three runs came in the first inning with an Asdrubal Cabrera two-run bomb doing most of the damage. Locke settled down to come within an out of a quality start. Locke falls to 0-4 with a 5.52 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in six starts. He lines up for starts against the Cardinals and Giants next week.
Wainwright pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-run ball and struck out eight in a win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Wainwright benefited from a generous strike zone in fanning more than six for just the second time in 16 starts this season. In fact, the Diamondbacks had their catcher and manager ejected in the fifth for complaining about it. Wainwright has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his last nine starts. Unfortunately, he gave up a combined 18 runs in the other two of those outings.
Bet Tonight’s Marlins vs. Cardinals Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Cardinals are 4-1 in Wainwright’s last five starts against the Marlins and are 4-1 in his last five outing outings versus Miami. The Marlins, meanwhile, are 2-5 in their last seven games against the Cards, are 1-4 in their last five games overall, and haven’t won in Locke’s last six outings. Despite losing last night, St. Louis has played well of late, winning four of its last five and four of its last five at home.
