Arrieta was outstanding in his season debut, allowing one unearned run on four hits in a 2-1 victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday. He walked two across six innings and the only run he allowed came on an error following an infield single in the fifth inning. He was removed after just 90 pitches but he’ll continue to build stamina throughout the next few weeks. The free-agent-to-be is off to a great start in 2017.
Davies was less-than-stellar in his season debut, allowing six runs on nine hits and walking four in a 6-5 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday. He struck out just one batter in his 4 1/3 innings and threw just 50 of 98 pitches for strikes. The 24-year-old was a reliable part of Milwaukee’s rotation last season but posted an 8.78 ERA in April last year. Perhaps he’s in store for another slow start.
