OUR PREDICTION
I love the pitching matchup for the Cubs, who will start Quintana against a punchless Marlins’ lineup in a pitcher’s park. Quintana improved in the second half last season and continues to be an improved road pitcher. He’s dominant against lefties and fares well against righties, although a right-hander will take him deep from time to time. On the other side is the 25-year-old Peters, who threw just 30 innings at the major league level. He doesn’t have great strikeout potential with his 89-92 mph fastball. If he can get his curve working then he might be able to keep this dangerous Chicago lineup off balance but Peters is also inconsistent with that pitch. Dating back to last season, the Cubs are 7-2 in Quintana’s last nine starts and a perfect 4-0 in his last four outings when he faces a team with a losing record.
