Arrieta allowed three runs – two earned – and four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings in a loss Saturday at Pittsburgh. Arrieta looked to be snapping out of his season-long slump with three quality starts in four outings from May 21-June 6, but he is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA over his past two outings. He’ll look to get back on track in his next scheduled start Thursday in Miami. (From Rotoworld)
Locke lasted just four innings Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits in a no-decision against the Braves. Marlins manager Don Mattingly has had an exceedingly quick hook for Locke since the southpaw was activated from the disabled list earlier this month, and again Saturday he was removed after throwing just 70 pitches. There was some strategy to it on Mattingly’s part — Locke was pinch-hit for in the middle of a five-run inning that gave the Marlins a lead, if only a fleeting one — but it doesn’t do much for Locke’s line. Through four starts, the 29-year-old is 0-2 with a 4.58 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.
