Lively allowed nine hits but only three runs over seven innings in a loss to the Braves on Thursday. If it sounds as though his quality start is being painted as a spirit win, that’s because it could have gone much worse for the 25-year-old. In fact, he seemed to get better as the game went on, allowing two runs in the first inning and just one more over his final six. It hasn’t been overly inspiring, but Lively now has a 2.57 ERA while going seven innings in each of his first two starts in the big leagues, and that’s something. Deeper mixed league something, mostly. A good test will come Tuesday, when Lively and the Phils travel to Fenway Park to take on the Red Sox.
Price allowed six runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Thursday. It was a night to forget for Price, who allowed more runs and walked more batters than he had in his first two starts combined. Gary Sanchez was his biggest nemesis, accounting for five of the six runs against Price with a pair of homers. Given the success he had his last time out, limiting the Orioles to one run over seven innings, this just appears to be a blip on the radar and not something more serious related to his arm health. Price will look to rebound Tuesday against the Phillies.
Bet Tonight’s Phillies vs. Red Sox Game
OUR PREDICTION: After blowing several leads in last night’s game to lose in extra innings, the Phillies are now just 3-13 in their last 16 games in Boston and 11-28 in their last 39 games versus the Red Sox overall. Boston, meanwhile, is 4-1 in Price’s last five home starts, has won five of his last six home starts against a team with a losing record, and is 7-0 in his last seven outings after scoring five runs or more in its previous game.
TUESDAY MLB PREDICTION: BOSTON RED SOX -1.5 (-115)
