Via Rotoworld: Making his first start since May 10, Maeda surrendered three runs on seven hits over five innings in Thursday’s win over the Cardinals. Maeda was sidelined for two weeks by hamstring tightness and he looked shaky out of the gate in his return on Thursday, surrendering a two-run double to Jedd Gyorko and an RBI single to Yadier Molina. However, he would settle in as the game progressed, even chipping in with a go-ahead two-run single to help his own cause in the fourth inning. Maeda finished his outing having struck out four, walked two and thrown 78 pitches (49 for strikes).
Wacha allowed six runs on seven hits over four-plus innings in Thursday’s 7-3 loss to the Dodgers. Wacha was working with a 3-0 advantage before he even threw his first pitch, but he was unable to hold the early lead afforded to him by the offense. Chase Utley burned him for a solo home run in the second inning, with three more runs scoring in the fourth inning. Two of those came home off the bat of opposing number Maeda, who laced a single down the third base line on a hanging curve. The final two runs on his line scored via the bullpen after he allowed runners on before being pulled with nobody out in the fifth. Wacha will carry a still-sturdy 3.66 ERA and 1.24 WHIP into tonight’s home start.

OUR PREDICTION: Despite winning on Memorial Day, the Dodgers are still just 17-37 in their last 54 games in St. Louis. They’re also 1-4 in Maeda’s last five starts when their opponent allows five runs or more in its previous game, as the Cardinals did on Monday. St. Louis, meanwhile, is 4-0 in Wacha’s last four outings when he’s coming off four days of rest and have won 29 of his last 43 home starts.
