From Rotoworld: McCarthy allowed two runs — one earned — over six innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Royals. McCarthy was sharp in his first start since a stint on the disabled list due to right knee tendinitis, scattering six hits and two walks over his six innings of work. Unfortunately for the tall drink of water, his bullpen wasn’t able to hold onto the lead he handed them, leaving him out of the decision. Even so, it was a strong end to a very strong first half for the 34-year-old, who remains 6-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 1.13 WHIP at the break.
Straily allowed one earned run, four hits and no walks over 8 1/3 innings in a win in San Francisco on Friday. Straily threw 80 of his 113 pitches for strikes in the quality start, but he just ran out of steam in the ninth inning and was forced to give way to Dustin McGowan for the final two outs. Still, it was an impressive showing for Straily, who wraps up his first half with a 7-4 record and 3.31 ERA across 103 1/3 innings over 18 starts.
