Santana allowed seven earned runs, seven hits and three walks while recording just two strikeouts over four innings in a loss Saturday at L.A. Angels. Santana served up three home runs, including Albert Pujols’ historic grand slam for his 600th homer. He threw just 48 of his 82 pitches as his ERA rose from 1.75 to 2.44. After a sparkling 5-0 record and 0.66 ERA through his first six starts he is 2-3 with a 4.28 ERA over his past six assignments. (Rotoworld)
Paxton excelled in his return from the disabled list, pitching 5 1/3 innings of three-hit ball in the Mariners’ 5-0 win over the Rockies. Paxton struck out six and walked none in the 74-pitch outing. His velocity did slip as the outing went along, but he was really sharp otherwise. Whether he stays healthy from here is anyone’s guess, but he’ll likely function as an elite starter if he can avoid the DL.
