From Rotoworld: Hoffman was fantastic while taking a no-decision in Sunday’s loss to the Phillies, surrendering one run on four hits over seven innings. Lovely work by Hoffman, here, as he struck out eight and walked just one. The only run to score on his watch came when Maikel Franco took him deep for a solo home run in the second inning. Otherwise, nothing doing for the Phillies over his seven innings of work. Hoffman struggled to an 8.00 ERA in five July outings, but has pitched well in his two starts this month, allowing three runs on nine hits over 13 innings. He will try for more of the same in a road date with the Marlins in his next scheduled outing.
Marlins recalled Nicolino from Triple-A New Orleans. It’s getting to be do-or-die time for Nicolino, who is 8-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 30 starts and six relief appearances for the Marlins over the last three seasons. He’ll make his return to the rotation Saturday against the Rockies.
