deGrom coughed up seven runs in four innings and was charged with a loss to the Brewers on Wednesday. Here is the good news: he struck out six batters in four innings. Everything else is bad. He issued five bases-on-balls and allowed eight hits — two of which were home runs. Eric Thames took him deep for a two-run shot in the first inning, then Keon Broxton smacked a solo dinger in the second frame. The wheels came off when he served up four runs in the fourth inning. It was the second time in deGrom’s career that he allowed seven or more earned runs in one game (he surrendered eight runs in five innings to the Giants last August). DeGrom falls to 4-2 with a 3.97 ERA through 11 starts. He has punched out an amazing 92 batters in 68 innings. (Rotoworld)
Gee will start for the Rangers on Tuesday in place of the injured A.J. Griffin. The 31-year-old has appeared in two games out of the bullpen for the Rangers, hurling 6 1/3 scoreless innings while posting a minuscule 0.90 WHIP and 5/1 K/BB ratio.
Bet Tonight’s Mets vs. Rangers Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Mets have won four of their last five games in Arlington and four of their last five games versus the Rangers overall. They’re also 5-2 in deGrom’s last seven starts, are 5-0 in his last five outings when he pitches the first game of a series, and are 5-1 in his last six starts following a team loss in their previous game. On the other side, the Rangers have lost four straight, are 2-8 in their last 10 games versus a right-handed starter, and are 2-7 in their last nine games following a loss.
