MLB Predictions: Will Mets’ Jacob deGrom shut down Phillies? 8/10/17

Phillies vs. Mets Prediction

Will Jacob deGrom help the Mets shut down the Phillies when the NL East rivals clash tonight at 7:05PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Mets are -155 money line favorites versus the Phillies, who have odds of +140 to pull off the upset at home. With deGrom set to face Vince Velasquez in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8 runs.

From Rotoworld: deGrom yielded three runs over five innings Friday in a loss to the Dodgers. DeGrom gave up five hits, including a pair of solo homers over his first two innings. He struck out eight while walking three. It was his shortest outing since June 6. After winning eight straight starts, deGrom has now lost back-to-back starts. He’ll try to get back on the winning track next week against the Rangers at home.

Velasquez pitched five innings of two-run ball Friday in a no-decision versus the Rockies. Velazquez is doing a much better job since coming off the disabled list, turning in three solid starts in four tries (with his one rough outing coming against Houston, baseball’s best offense to date). He’s still a mediocre play in mixed leagues, in part because the weak team around him makes wins tough to come by.

Bet Tonight’s Mets vs. Phillies Game

OUR PREDICTION: The Mets have been a fantastic play when deGrom starts, winning eight of his last 10 outings. They’re also 7-2 in his last nine road starts versus a team with a losing record, are 4-1 in his last five starts coming off five days of rest, and are 10-2 in his last 12 starts when he starts the first game of a new series. On the other side, the Phillies are just 6-17 in Velasquez’s last 23 starts, are 3-9 in his last 12 outings at home, and are 1-4 in his last five starts coming off five days of rest.
