Gsellman was touched for eight runs – seven earned – and nine hits with three walks and just two strikeouts across 4 1/3 innings in a road loss Tuesday against the Dodgers. Gsellman managed to throw just 60 of his 96 pitches for strikes. When he actually did get it over the plate, his location was off, as he served up four homers — two to Corey Seager, one to Cody Bellinger and one to Yasmani Grandal. Gsellman will look to bounce back in his next scheduled start June 27 in Miami.
Straily tossed six innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Nationals. Miami’s offense was held hitless for seven innings by opposing starter Max Scherzer before breaking through for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to capture the lead for good. Straily cleared the way for that surprising comeback, yielding just three hits and a walk over six very good frames. He struck out six. The 28-year-old right-hander now boasts a 3.43 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 86/27 K/BB ratio in 84 innings (15 starts) this season. A home matchup with the Mets is next.
