Latest on Jackson via Rotoworld: Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports that Jackson will be called up to start Tuesday in place of Joe Ross (elbow). Jackson has an August 1 opt-out on his minor league contract, so the Nationals will give him a look rather than risk losing him. The 33-year-old has posted a 0.44 ERA over 20 1/3 innings at Triple-A Syracuse, but he was rocked in three appearances earlier this season with the Orioles. Jackson could stick around for additional starts if he pitches well, but the leash will obviously be short.
Chavez allowed three earned runs, seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts over five innings in a loss on Saturday at Texas. Chavez slipped to 5-10, losing his third straight start and fourth consecutive decision dating back to his last win on June 6 in Detroit. The home folks haven’t witnessed a Chavez victory since May 15. He heads into the All-Star break with four straight non-quality starts and a 4.99 ERA over 101 innings across 18 starts and one relief appearance.
Bet Tonight’s Nationals vs. Angels Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Nationals have lost five of their last six games against the Angels but their price is too good to pass up tonight. They’re 5-0 in their last five games, are 4-0 in their last four games versus a right-handed starter, and are 8-0 in their last eight games played on Tuesday (for one reason or another). The Angels, meanwhile, are 1-4 in Chavez’s last five starts and have dropped seven of 10 overall.
