Latest on Hoffman from Rotoworld: Hoffman took it on the chin in Wednesday’s loss to the Diamondbacks, relinquishing eight hits, nine runs and two walks over 3 2/3 innings. He tallied two strikeouts while throwing 45 of his 68 pitches for strikes. Hoffman cruised through the first three innings, allowing just one base-runner during that span. It all went downhill from there as the D’Backs tagged Hoffman for nine runs on seven hits in the fourth inning. He couldn’t finish the frame, allowing six straight batters to reach before finally getting the hook from manager Bud Black. Hoffman took his first loss of the year while watching his ERA skyrocket from 2.25 to 4.29.
Cain allowed seven runs on 10 hits — including three home runs — over four innings in Thursday’s loss to the Braves. Thursday was the sixth time in his last 10 starts that Cain has allowed nine or more hits, and he’s now given up 12 homers in 15 starts overall. On May 15, Cain was 3-1 with a 4.04 ERA; through Thursday, the right-hander is 3-7 with a 5.54 ERA. This is simply a case of time catching up to the 32-year-old. The Giants are still paying him $21 million this season, though, and with few hopes for postseason play the team doesn’t need to find a better option if one isn’t readily available. The Rockies are the next team with a chance to feed on Cain when the two sides meet up Tuesday.

On the other side, the over is 6-1 in the Giants’ last seven home games, is 4-1-1 in their lsat six games versus National League West rivals, and is 36-16-2 in Cain’s last 54 starts coming off four days of rest.
