From Rotoworld: Eickhoff yielded two runs in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday in a victory over the Phillies. Eickhoff allowed nine hits, but he did a nice job of spreading them out until the seventh, when he was charged with both runs. Eickhoff has won his last three decisions since opening the season 0-7, though those wins have come with no-decisions mixed in. He’s received decisions in just half of his 20 starts. He looks like a nice play in mixed leagues with starts in San Diego and San Francisco coming up next week.
Wood let in six runs — five earned — in five innings to take a loss to the Reds on Wednesday. He surrendered seven hits and walked four batters, although he did notch seven strikeouts in the sub-par effort. He served up two-run gopherballs to third baseman Eugenio Suarez and back-up catcher Stuart Turner. The veteran left-hander is getting another chance to be a starting pitcher since being traded from the Royals at the deadline in the Trevor Cahill deal. Wood has been atrocious this season — he has a 6.71 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in 57 2/3 innings. He had a 2.95 ERA in 61 innings out of the Cubs’ bullpen last year.
Bet Tonight’s Phillies vs. Padres Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Phillies are 25-8 in their last 33 games in San Diego, are 40-16 in their last 56 games versus the Padres overall, and are 4-1 in Eickhoff’s last five starts when he’s coming off a quality start in his last appearance. On the other side, the Padres have dropped nine of their last 13 games when facing a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and are just 1-4 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter overall.
