From Rotoworld: Cueto allowed a lone run over seven innings of work Saturday against the Mets, settling for a no-decision. Cueto and Mets starter Jacob deGrom squared off through Cueto’s seven innings, eaching surrendering a solitary run, each by way of the long ball. Cueto gave up just five hits on the night, including the Wilmer Flores solo homer, and he also walked three and struck out three on the night. With word leaking out that the 31-year-old plans to opt out of his deal at season’s end, starts like Saturday’s only help the cause. The right-hander has a 4.20 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 93/28 K/BB ratio over 16 starts overall.
Cole held the Cardinals to one run over six innings in a win Saturday. Some might have been concerned when the first Cardinals hitter of the game, Matt Carpenter, deposited a Cole offering into the Cards’ bullpen, but Cole straightened up from there. He gave up just four hits the rest of the night, walking two while striking out five. The start was the third in a row in which the 26-year-old has allowed just a single run. It’s no coincidence that he’s 3-0 in those starts. Cole is 6-6 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.25 WHIP overall, but that late May-early June funk seems to be a thing of the past.
