From Rotoworld: Cole punched out 10 batters while allowing one run in seven innings as his club defeated the Brewers 3-2 in extra innings on Wednesday. He didn’t get the win but he certainly deserved one. The big right-hander gave up a run in the first inning, then marched through six scoreless frames before being relieved after tossing 103 pitches. He surrendered six hits and didn’t walk a batter in the sterling effort. It was the third strong start in a row for Cole after he struggled through the month of June. His record holds at 7-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 20 starts. He has 108 strikeouts and 27 walks in 120 2/3 innings.
Cain allowed three runs on five hits over six innings while taking a no-decision in Wednesday’s win over the Indians. Cain struck out five and walked two in what was a respectable enough performance given that he entered the game holding a 5.56 ERA. Both runs on the veteran right-hander’s line came in the third inning, when he surrendered RBI singles to Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez. Cain will next toe the rubber in a home start against the Pirates.
Bet Tonight’s Pirates vs. Giants Game
OUR PREDICTION: The Pirates have won six of Cole’s last seven starts, are 4-0 in his last four road outings, and are 12-4 in their last 16 games overall. Meanwhile, the hapless Giants are 4-10 in their last 14 games, are 7-17 in their last 24 home games, and have dropped 13 of their last 16 at home when playing an opponent with a losing record. No reason to bet San Francisco unless Madison Bumgarner is on the hill. And even then it’s a risky proposition.
