Via Rotoworld: Montgomery yielded two runs over 4 1/3 innings in his start against the Brewers on Friday. He likely would have pitched longer if it wasn’t for a lengthy rain delay. Montgomery held the Brewers scoreless until Jesus Aguilar launched a two-run homer in the fourth. He returned after the rain delay, but he faced just three hitters in the fifth before being pulled. The rookie southpaw will finish the first half with a 3.65 ERA and 87/28 K/BB ratio in 91 1/3 innings through 16 starts.
Pomeranz walked five and gave up six hits but held the Rays to just two runs over six innings in a win Friday. The southpaw wasn’t at his sharpest, but he made pitches when he had to, including getting out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fifth inning. Six strikeouts helped him along the way. Through mid-May, Pomeranz appeared to be a disaster for the Sox, but since a loss against the same Rays club on May 14 that dropped him to 3-3 with a 5.29 ERA, Pomeranz has gone 6-1 while lowering his ERA to 3.60 in that span. In that sense, the break comes at an inopportune time, but the 28-year-old will look to carry that momentum into the second half.
