Steven Souza was forced to leave Saturday’s game against the Jays after being hit on the top of the left hand by a pitch from Joe Biagini. Souza broke his hand in a similar fashion in 2016, with that injury causing him to miss singificant time. X-rays will determine if this injury is once again a break.
Justin Smoak had a big day on Saturday, going 3-for-3 against the Rays on Saturday. He drilled a two-run homer off Tampa Bay starter Matt Andriese to put the Blue Jays ahead by three. Now getting everyday playing time in Toronto this year, Smoak’s slash line is .271/.308/.521 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 78 plate appearances.
Bet Today’s Rays vs. Blue Jays Game
OUR PREDICTION: Archer has struggled in his last two starts. He allowed five earned runs over 6 2/3 innings on Monday in a loss to the Orioles, walking five batters and allowing six hits. The Rays’ ace allowed home runs to Hyun Soo Kim, Jonathan Schoop and Adam Jones, with Jones’ two-run shot coming in the bottom of the seventh to put Baltimore up for good. Even with Sanchez on a pitch limit after returning from a stint on the disabled list, the Blue Jays are good play today with Archer struggling.
