Gerrit Cole’s debut on Monday was undone by one poor inning, as the Red Sox touched him for five runs in the fifth inning. Cole had allowed just two baserunners through 4 2/3 innings but then the wheels fell off. Boston racked up six straight hits, which included an Andrew Benintendri three-run home run. David Freese also went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the loss.
Rick Porcello was charged with three runs over 6 1/3 innings in Monday’s 5-3 win over the Pirates. He allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five as he started to tire in the seventh. Craig Kimbrel allowed a hit but struck out two in a scoreless inning to record his first save of the season.
Bet Tonight’s Pirates vs. Red Sox Game
OUR PICK: Sale will make his Boston debut after he was acquired from the White Sox in the offseason. He’s coming off a fantastic season in which he went 17-10 with a 3.34 ERA over 32 starts. The Pirates do have some punch throughout their lineup but once Sale settles in, he should cruise. At -200, the Red Sox are laying too much on the moneyline to risk your bank roll this early in the season, but they still offer some value on the runline.
