MLB Predictions: Will Red Sox’ Porcello take down Rangers on Monday? 7/3/17

Red Sox vs. Rangers Prediction

Will Red Sox starter Rick Porcello take down the Rangers tonight at 8:05PM ET in Texas?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Red Sox are -125 money line favorites to beat the Rangers, who have odds of +105 to pull off the upset at home. With Porcello set to face Martin Perez in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 11 runs.

From Rotoworld: Porcello took his 10th loss after giving up four runs in six innings Wednesday against the Twins. Porcello bounced back nicely from a tough first, giving up just a couple of singles over the following four innings, but the sixth started with a walk and a Max Kepler homers. Even with all of the hits he’s allowed, Porcello has pitched six innings in 14 straight starts. He has 10 quality starts in 17 tries for the season, which isn’t bad at all. The problem is that he’s given up three earned runs in five of those, plus three unearned runs in another. He’s had just one start all year in which he’s allowed one or no runs; last year, he had seven.

Perez (thumb) is expected to start Monday against the Red Sox. It was reported Friday that Perez still wasn’t able to squeeze his glove shut due to his fractured right (non-throwing) thumb. However, he has a makeshift guard inserted into the thumb hole to protect him and it sounds like he’s ready to go. Yu Darvish will start Tuesday and Andrew Cashner will go Wednesday for the Rangers.

Bet Tonight’s Red Sox vs. Rangers Game

OUR PREDICTION: The Red Sox are 4-0 in their last four games against the Rangers and have won four straight overall. They’re also 4-1 in their last five road games, are 11-5 in their last 16 games versus an opponent with a losing record, and are 7-3 in Porcello’s last 10 starts versus the AL West. On the other side, the Rangers are just 1-4 in their last five games overall, are 1-4 in their last five games versus a right-handed starter, and have lost five of Perez’s last six starts versus a team from the AL East.
