From Rotoworld: Wainwright (back) will return Sunday against the Reds. Wainwright got the green light after completing a successful bullpen session on Wednesday. No rehab stint will be required. Despite an uncharacteristically lousy 4.89 ERA, Wainwright leads the Cardinals with 11 victories this year. Back stiffness has sidelined him for the last week and a half.
Bailey spun six innings of one-run ball in Tuesday’s 9-1 victory over the Pirates. Bailey has been hit-or-miss to say the least since returning from the disabled list, but he looked good in this one. The Pirates managed only four hits and two walks off the righty. The only troubling thing is that Bailey notched just three strikeouts, and he’s whiffed just 23 over 39 1/3 frames so far. That’s not encouraging for a guy who, if he’s going to rediscover fantasy value, needs to start missing more bats. Bailey gets the Cardinals at home Sunday.
Bet Today’s Cardinals vs. Reds Game
OUR PREDICTION: Despite losing on Saturday night, the Reds are still 1-4 in their last five games against the Cardinals at home and are 2-5 in their last seven games versus St. Louis overall. They’re also 10-5 in their last 14 games against National League Central opponents and are 11-6 in their last 17 home games versus an opponent with a losing record. On the other side, the Cardinals have dropped seven of heir last 20 road games versus a team with a losing record and have not fared well versus the rest of the division, losing 20 of their last 29 games versus the NL Central.
