Today’s pitching matchup has Trevor Bauer (3-4, 6.92 ERA) on the mound for the Indians to face Charlie Morton (5-2, 3.97) of the Astros. Morton has failed to get through the sixth in his last two starts. He still has 54 strikeouts over 45.1 innings of work this year. His WHIP is 1.37. Bauer has struggled most of the season. He has allowed multiple runs in every start and at least three in all but one. He has 44 strikeouts, but also has allowed 44 hits and has a WHIP of 1.51.
Cleveland is coming off a pair of series losses at home to the Rays and Twins. The Indians are now 20-19 overall and 12-9 on the road. The Indians are putting up 4.31 runs per game while allowing 4.08. Leading the Indians is Francisco Lindor, who has nine home runs and 21 RBI. Jose Ramirez has six homers with 24 RBI.
Houston has won four straight and nine of its last 10 entering tonight’s game. Houston is now 29-12 overall and 14-6 at home. The Astros are averaging 5.15 runs per game and allowing just 3.66. The Astros are being led by Jose Altuve, who has a .311 average with six home runs, 19 RBI and nine stolen bases. Marwin Gonzalez is adding nine home runs and 24 RBI.
It’s tough to pick against the Astros right now. They are rolling at the plate and on the mound. Bauer is really struggling, and the Astros should be able to capitalize that. Morton hasn’t been stellar, but he has been good enough to give Houston what it needs tonight. Stick with the Astros to stay hot.
