From Rotoworld: Newcomb allowed only one run in six innings but was denied a win when the Giants tied the game in the ninth inning on Wednesday. He surrendered just three base hits and one walk while fanning three in the premium outing. The one run he allowed came when Brandon Belt laced a triple that scored Hunter Pence in the second inning. This was Newcomb’s third major league start. He owns a shiny 1.96 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He has 13 strikeouts and seven walks in 18 1/3 innings. He had a 2.97 ERA in 11 starts at Triple-A before his call to the bigs.
Chacin pitched well in Tuesday’s loss to the Cubs, allowing two runs on five hits across six strong innings. The right-hander punched out six on the evening while walking three. He surrendered a leadoff home run to Anthony Rizzo then kept the Cubs off the board save for an Addison Russell single in the fourth inning. The 29-year-old will carry a 4.95 ERA and 72/29 K/BB ratio into Tuesday’s matchup against the Braves.
