The pitching matchup for today has Eric Skoglund (1-1, 5.59 ERA) on the mound for the Royals to face Carlos Carrasco (12-6, 3.95) of the Indians. Skoglund has appeared in the just three games, lasting only 9.2 innings while giving up six runs with eight strikeouts and five walks. He also has a 1.86 WHIP. Carrasco is coming off a poor outing, allowing six runs over 6.2 innings. He has 167 strikeouts this season with 40 walks and a 1.14 WHIP.
The Indians have picked up a pair of 4-0 wins over the Royals this weekend. Kansas City is 64-64 overall and 29-34 on the season while Cleveland is now 72-56 overall and 35-29 at home.
Mike Clevinger went six innings and allowed just four hits with nine strikeouts to get his seventh win of the year. Jason Hammel gave up four runs in 6.2 innings of work for the Royals, which gave him his 10th loss of the year. Edwin Encarnacion hit his 30th home run of the year in the win for Cleveland while Robert Perez also homered and drove in a pair of runs. Melky Cabrera had two hits to lead the Royals.
Kansas City hasn’t managed to score a run in this series and that’s not terribly surprising, as KC has went in scoring funks before. Carrasco is coming off a bad start, but Clevinger wasn’t pitching all that well before blanking the Royals on Saturday. Cleveland shouldn’t have too much trouble hitting Skoglund and the Tribe likely won’t need many runs to get past KC today.
