Today’s pitching matchup has Trevor Bauer (13-8, 4.59 ERA) on the mound for Cleveland to face Jaime Garcia (1-1, 5.47) of the Yankees. Bauer is coming off a 4-run, 5.1-inning outing against the Red Sox in his last start. However, he has won his last six decisions. Bauer has 157 strikeouts with 51 walks and a 1.44 WHIP. Garcia has struggled in his four starts with New York, allowing 16 runs over 19.2 innings. This year, Garcia has 107 strikeouts with 57 walks and a 1.40 WHIP.
Cleveland won the series opener on Monday. The Indians picked up a 6-2 win and the road team has won three straight meetings between these two. The Tribe are now 74-56 overall and 38-27 on the road. New York is 70-60 overall and 37-24 at home.
Corey Kluber led the way to another win on Monday, pitching eight innings while allowing two runs. He picked up his 13th win of the year. Luis Severino allowed four runs over 6.2 innings to fall to 11-6 on the season. Jose Ramirez had a pair of home runs to lead the Indians while Carlos Santana also homered for Cleveland. Chase Headley had a home run for the Yankees in the loss.
Cleveland struck the first blow in this series thanks to great pitching. I think the Indians are more likely to get good pitching again today. Bauer doesn’t have great numbers this year, but has been pretty good over recent weeks and Cleveland has been winning games with him on the mound. Garcia hasn’t been reliable for New York and the Yankees are dealing with some woes at the plate, especially Aaron Judge.
