Today’s pitching matchup has Trevor Bauer (2-3, 7.67 ERA) on the mound to face Marcus Stroman (2-2, 3.89) of the Blue Jays. Bauer is coming off his worst outing of 2017, allowing seven runs in four innings with five walks against the Tigers last week. He now has a 1.59 WHIP with 31 strikeouts and 12 walks in 27 innings of work. Stroman is also coming off a poor outing, allowing five runs in three innings of work. He has allowed 17 earned runs in 39.1 innings of work. His WHIP is 1.35.
Cleveland is coming off a weekend series win at Kansas City this past weekend to improve to 17-13 on the season and 11-7 on the road. The Indians are averaging 4.27 runs per game this season while allowing 3.97. Francisco Lindor continues to be the team leader at the plate with eight home runs and 18 RBI while Jose Ramirez is adding six home runs and 23 RBI.
Toronto is coming off a road series win as well, when it took two of three from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Blue Jays are 11-20 overall and 4-8 at home this season. Toronto is putting up just 3.81 runs per game while allowing 4.55. Kendrys Morales is leading the team with six home runs and 20 RBI while Kevin Pillar is hitting .313 and has four home runs with nine RBI.
Toronto is surprisingly struggling at home this season and things don’t look much better with Stroman on the mound. They are 0-4 in his last four home starts and 1-4 in his last 5 starts overall. Cleveland has won 5 of Bauer’s last 6 starts on a Monday and they also have won 19 of their last 28 road games. Cleveland is putting up a much higher run average and the Indians have the bats to give Bauer some run support that Stroman won’t get.
