The pitching matchup for this game has Felix Hernandez (3-2, 4.66 ERA) on the mound for Seattle to face Danny Duffy (4-4, 3.54) of the Royals. Duffy is coming off his worst start of the year, allowing six runs in just four innings of work. He has 54 strikeouts with 25 walks and a 1.37 WHIP this season. King Felix has struggled since returning, allowing six runs in 12 innings of work over two starts. This season he has 33 strikeouts with seven walks and a 1.53 WHIP in seven starts.
The Royals opened up this series with a 3-1 win in Seattle. Kansas City is 42-40 on the year and 18-21 on the road. Seattle is now 41-43 overall and 25-18 at home.
On Monday, Ian Kennedy gave KC a surprisingly good start. He went 6.2 innings and allowed just one run on four hits to improve to 3-6 on the season. Andrew Moore took his first loss despite going eight innings for the Mariners. The Royals got a pair of homers from Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas. Moustakas now has 23 long balls on the season.
The Royals aren’t being given a lot of credit, but they have played pretty well in the last month. They are now in the playoff mix. Typically Seattle is strong with King Felix on the mound, but he hasn’t looked sharp in his return. Duffy is coming off a poor showing, but the last time he allowed six runs, he bounced back in a big way. I think Duffy will do the same today against a Seattle lineup that is coming off a quiet night.
