Tigers vs. Pirates Pick
Can the Pittsburgh Pirates hold off the Detroit Tigers for a second win in two days when they meet tonight at 7:05PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, the Pirates are the clear favorite today, as Pittsburgh is getting odds of -175 to win. Detroit is listed with a money line of +155 to prevail, while the over/under total has been set at 9 runs.

The pitching matchup tonight has Chad Kuhl (4-7, 4.53 ERA) on the mound for the Pirates to face Matthew Boyd (5-5, 5.35) of the Tigers. Boyd has allowed at least three runs in his last 10 starts. He has 59 strikeouts this season with 32 walks and a 1.65 WHIP. Kuhl is coming off a 7-inning scoreless effort against the Reds in his last start. He has 90 strikeouts this season with 46 walks and a 1.45 WHIP.
These two opened a home-and-home four-game series on Monday night with Pittsburgh picking up a 3-0 win at home. The Pirates are now 55-57 overall and 31-26 at home while the Tigers are 51-60 overall and 24-35 on the road.
Monday’s game saw the Tigers held to just one hit as Trevor Williams pitched seven scoreless with five strikeouts and his bullpen pitched a pair of perfect innings. Jordan Zimmerman took the loss, but pitched well. He allowed just three runs in seven innings. John Jason had a pinch-hit, two-run home run to lead the Pirates while Francisco Cervelli had a RBI double.
The Pirates were able to completely silence the Detroit bats on Monday and the Tigers seem to be a much weaker lineup since trading away J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila. Boyd has actually led Detroit to wins in recent starts, but he is certain to give up his three runs or more. I think that will be too many tonight, as Kuhl is coming off a strong start and facing a depleted team.
