Today’s pitching matchup has Ervin Santana (13-7, 3.33 ERA) on the mound for the Twins to face James Shields (2-4, 5.72) of the White Sox. Santana has been the ace for Minnesota this season, but has allowed multiple runs in his last nine starts. Santana has 131 strikeouts with 54 walks and a 1.15 WHIP on the year. Shields hasn’t been good for Chicago, allowing at least three runs in nine of his last 10 starts. Shields has 64 strikeouts this season with 35 walks and a 1.57 WHIP.
Minnesota has won the last two games in this series, picking up a 4-1 win on Tuesday night. The Twins are now 65-60 overall and 34-25 on the road. Chicago is 48-76 overall and 26-33 at home.
Kyle Gibson came through with a rare good start on Tuesday night, pitching seven innings while allowing just one run with eight strikeouts. Lucas Giolito gave up four runs over six innings. Eddie Rosario hit his 18th home run of the season and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Twins. Chicago was led at the plate by Yoan Moncada, who had two doubles.
Santana has been somewhat reliable for the Twins. He has had some poor outings this season, but usually has a competitive outing to keep his team in the contest. Shields is a disaster for the most part. He has given up at least three runs in most starts this year. The three runs is the minimum. He should probably give up more than that tonight. Go with the Twins to ride Santana to another win.
