The pitching matchup in this game features Kyle Gibson (4-5, 6.23 ERA) on the mound for Minnesota to face David Price (2-2, 4.76) of the Red Sox. Gibson has struggled all season, but his last six starts have seen him hold opponents to two runs or less in four of them. On the year, he has 44 strikeouts with 33 walks and a 1.83 WHIP. Price has made six starts this year, allowing 18 earned runs in 34 innings. He has 29 strikeouts with 15 walks and a 1.35 WHIP.
Boston took the first two games of the series, but Minnesota got on the board Wednesday with a 4-1 win on the road. These two have hit the under in two of the three games. Boston is now 43-35 overall, 24-14 at home and 39-35 with the under. Minnesota is now 40-36 overall, 24-11 on the road and 39-32 with the under.
Minnesota got some big pitching in Wednesday’s win. Adalberto Mejia lasted 5.2 innings without giving up a run to get his third win. Brandon Kintzler added his 21st save. Rick Porcello took his 10th loss of 2017 after allowing four runs in six innings. Max Kepler led the Twins at the plate with three RBI while Xavier Bogaerts had the lone RBI for Boston.
These two teams haven’t been lighting the world on fire at the plate in this series. Though both pitchers tonight have some poor numbers, I think the under will hit. Gibson has actually been showing improvement in his recent starts and had one of his best of the year in his last outing. Price is still working out some kinks, but should be able to get past these Minnesota hitters without too much damage.
