He was touched up for a two-run homer by Steven Souza in the second inning. This was the first career start for the 32-year-old rookie after making four appearances in relief. Scherzer allowed one unearned run, three hits and two walks while striking out 14 batters over seven innings in a win Tuesday at the Dodgers. Scherzer threw 73 of his 105 pitches for strikes, recording double-digit strikeout totals for the third consecutive outing. He also has 11 or more strikeouts in five of his past seven starts dating back to May 4. Scherzer will look to keep it rolling in Sunday’s game against the Rangers.
