The pitching matchup has Carlos Rodon (2-4, 3.88 ERA) on the mound for the White Sox to face Buck Farmer (2-1, 6.62) of the Tigers. Farmer hasn’t pitched for the Tigers since June 18. His last two starts then saw him allow 13 runs over 4.2 innings. Farmer has a 1.36 WHIP on the season. Rodon has allowed two runs in each of his last four starts. He has 68 strikeouts this season with 27 walks and a 1.36 WHIP.
These two opened their weekend series on Friday, with the White Sox picking up a 3-2 win. The home team has won five straight meetings between these two. The Sox are now 51-76 overall and 29-33 at home while the Tigers are 55-72 overall and 24-40 on the road.
Detroit had a familiar scene on Friday, blowing a good start from Justin Verlander. He pitched seven innings and allowed just two runs with eight strikeouts. Miguel Gonzalez threw eight innings and gave up two runs as well with nine strikeouts. Yolmer Sanchez got the game-winning RBI in the ninth on a single. Jose Abreu added a solo home run for Chicago, his 26th of the year. Detroit was led at the plate by Jose Iglesias, who drove in both runs.
The Tigers can’t count on their pitching much at all. The bullpen is a mess and many of the starters are too. Farmer has really struggled this year and probably isn’t going to have all his problems fixed by a few months in the minors. Chicago has Rodon on the mound, who gives up a few runs, but doesn’t get lit up. He should be able to keep Detroit in check at the plate while Farmer gets roughed up again.
