MLB Predictions: Will the White Sox sweep the Astros? 8/10/17

Astros vs. White Sox Pick

Can the Houston Astros snap out of their funk and avoid a third straight loss to the Chicago White Sox when the two meet up again tonight at 8:10PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Houston is the clear favorite on the road tonight, as the Astros are getting odds of -220 to win. The White Sox are listed with a money line of +180 to prevail, while the over/under total for the contest has been set at 9.5 runs.

The pitching matchup tonight has Brad Peacock (10-1, 3.20 ERA) on the mound for Houston to face Carlos Rodon (1-4, 4.66) of the White Sox. Peacock is actually coming off an awful performance where he allowed seven runs in six innings to the Blue Jays. He still somehow got a win. Peacock has 107 strikeouts with 43 walks on the year and a 1.26 WHIP. Rodon has allowed just three runs over his last 14.1 innings of work. He has 51 strikeouts on the season with 20 walks and a 1.47 WHIP.

After an 8-5 win on Tuesday as a +220 underdog, the White Sox managed a 7-1 win on Wednesday night as a +180 dog at home. Chicago is now 43-68 overall and 23-29 at home with these two wins while the Astros have fallen to 71-42 overall and 38-17 on the road.

Collin McHugh had a rough outing for Houston, allowing seven runs in 5.1 innings to fall to 0-1 on the season. Miguel Gonzalez got the win for Chicago by pitching eight innings and giving up just one run. Tim Anderson had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the White Sox in the win while Leury Garcia and Yolmer Sanchez each drove in a pair of runs. Derek Fisher had a solo home run to lead Houston at the plate.

Bet on Astros vs. White Sox

Maybe Chicago has something on Houston? These two wins have been pretty shocking, but there is actually reason to believe it could happen again tonight. Rodon has been at his best lately and he has 31 strikeouts over his last three starts. Houston may have won Peacock’s last eight starts, but he was certainly lucky to win his last start. He was a mess against a rather average Toronto lineup at home. There’s not telling if he has figured out what went wrong or if his hitters will be able to back him up against Rodon. Given the long odds, maybe take a chance on Chicago again tonight.
