CHICAGO KEY TRENDS: The White Sox are just 3-8 in Shields’ last 11 starts, are 2-7 in his last nine outings versus American League Central opponents, and are winless at 0-4 in his last four road starts. That said, they’ve won five of their last seven road games and have beaten a left-handed starter in five of their last six opportunities.
MINNESOTA KEY TRENDS: Te Twins have won four of their last five home games, are 9-4 in their last 13 games against American League Central opponents and are 4-0 in Santiago’s last four starts when he’s coming off a Quality Start in his last appearance. They’ve also won five of his last seven starts versus American League Central opponents.
Bet Today’s White Sox vs. Twins Game
OUR PICK: Shields pitched well in his last start, allowing just one run on two hits with two walks while striking out six over 5 1/3 innings in Tuesday’s loss to the Indians. But the White Sox just aren’t scoring right now. They were shut out 6-0 by the Twins on Saturday and have scored three or fewer runs in seven of their 10 games to start the season. Santiago has posted a 5:3 K:BB ratio in his 11 1/3 innings of work, which is problematic for his long-term success, but he’s also posted a 2.38 ERA through his first two starts. Given Chicago’s offensive troubles, I’ll back Santiago and Minnesota.
