From Rotoworld: Wheeler gave up two runs — both unearned — in a short 3 2/3 inning start against the Phillies on Saturday. He made it through the first three innings while allowing just one single and no runs. Things got dicey in the fourth. Following an error by third baseman T.J. Rivera, Wheeler walked the next two batters before allowing a run in on a fielder’s choice and another on a single. He was pulled for a reliever having thrown 82 pitches. Wheeler was making his first start after spending 10 days on the disabled list with biceps tendinitis. Wheeler has a 3-5 record with a 5.01 ERA after 14 starts.
Wainwright earned his eighth win of the season on Monday despite allowing six runs over five innings against the Marlins. The right-hander punched out eight while walking one on the night. He was staked to an early 11 run advantage in this one, but nearly gave it back when he surrendered six runs in the fifth. He’ll bring a disappointing 5.48 ERA and 1.55 WHIP into Saturday’s start against the Mets.
