From Rotoworld: Wood surrendered four runs on eight hits over seven innings in Friday’s win over the Giants. Wood struck out five without walking a batter in the contest. He held the Giants to just one run over the first six innings and carried a 2-1 lead into the seventh before a few missteps cost him the advantage. After two runners reached (one on an error), Wood proceeded to give up back-to-back-to-back RBI hits to Jae-Gyun Hwang, Nick Hundley and Gorkys Hernandez and when the dust settled, the Giants held a 4-2 advantage. As they tend to do, the Dodgers would come back with four runs one half-inning later to take the lead once more (this time for good). Despite this little stumble, the 26-year-old Wood still holds a crisp 2.38 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 110/27 K/BB ratio across 98 1/3 frames. He will tango with the Braves in a home start next time he takes to the mound.
Newcomb gave up one run in five innings and did not factor into the decision against the Phillies on Saturday. He struck out four batters and allowed just two hits but walked three in the outing. He issued two walks in the fourth inning in front of an Odubel Herrera single that plated Aaron Altherr with a run. The rookie’s record holds at 1-5 with a 4.50 ERA after nine starts. He has 48 strikeouts and 25 walks in 48 innings. The 24-year-old has a bright future if he can hone his control.
