MLB Predictions: Will Yankees upset David Price, Red Sox on Sunday? 7/16/17

Yankees vs. Red Sox Prediction

Will the Yankees upset David Price and the Red Sox on Sunday night when the rivals meet at 8:05PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Red Sox are -130 money line favorites to beat the Yankees, who have odds of +120 to pull off the upset. With Price set to face Masahiro Tanaka in the pitching matchup, the over/under currently sits at 8.5 runs.

From Rotoworld: Tanaka took a beating Sunday in the Yankees’ loss to Milwaukee, allowing six hits and five runs over 4 1/3 lackluster innings. He finished the afternoon with five strikeouts and one walk. The Brewers flexed their power muscles against Tanaka, drilling two homers against the right-hander. Travis Shaw took him deep for a three-run jack in the first followed by a Stephen Vogt solo shot in the second. Tanaka had been pitching better of late, allowing just three runs over his previous three outings. The right-hander will go to the break with an uncharacteristically high 5.47 ERA over 18 starts for the Bombers.

Price was sharp Sunday in a no-decision against the Rays, scattering five hits and two runs over six strong innings. He struck out five and walked two. Price was lights out against his ex-mates, holding the Rays scoreless over his final three innings and retiring 10 straight at one point. Despite some heated run-ins with the Boston media in recent weeks, the cagey left-hander has done a solid job for the Sox, pitching to an excellent 2.37 ERA during his three-start unbeaten streak. He’s lined up to face the Yankees next Sunday night at Fenway.

Bet Today’s Yankees vs. Red Sox Game

OUR PREDICTION: The Red Sox are just 1-4 in Price’s last five starts against the Yankees, who are 8-2 in their last 10 games versus Boston entering Sunday’s action (that doesn’t include Game 1 of today’s double-header at Fenway). The Yankees are also 6-0 in Tanaka’s last six starts coming off six days of rest and are 29-14 in his last 43 starts overall. Boston, meanwhile, is just 1-4 in Price’s last five starts against American League East competition.
