They’ve been undefeated against the Oakland Athletics on their side of the bay for the past few seasons.
The Giants look to sweep the Athletics at AT&T Park for the third straight year as this weekend’s Bay Bridge Series concludes Sunday.
According to MLB odds and oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Giants -130 money line favorites for Sunday’s game against the Athletics. Current MLB Public Betting Information shows that 56% of more than 188 bets for this game have been placed on the Giants -130.
San Francisco (26-19) went 4-5 at home in April, but has limited the opposition to 11 total runs while winning all eight of its home games in May. The eight-game streak is the Giants’ longest at home since a nine-game run May 24-June 14, 2004.
“To have a packed house every day pulling for you is added incentive to do well,” manager Bruce Bochy told the Giants’ official website.
Tim Lincecum shut down the A’s (22-24) on Saturday, tossing a three-hitter in the Giants’ 3-0 win – also their eighth straight at home over Oakland. Buster Posey finished with two hits and an RBI, and is batting .417 during a 10-game hitting streak.
Posey finished with two hits, and is batting .417 with two RBIs during a 10-game hitting streak.
The Giants have won four in a row and 11 of 14 overall. They’re only averaging 3.4 runs over that span, but Oakland’s offense has been far worse lately.
The A’s have batted .165 and plated five total runs while losing four straight since beating the Los Angeles Angels 14-0 on Tuesday.
Kurt Suzuki is 1 for 11 during the skid, while Kevin Kouzmanoff is 1 for 12. Kouzmanoff left Saturday’s game with a right groin strain and is listed as day to day.
Gio Gonzalez (5-2, 2.31 ERA) was on the mound for Oakland’s last win, and he’ll be seeking his fourth straight victory when he takes the ball in the series finale.
Gonzalez allowed one hit and one walk while striking out seven in seven innings to beat the Angels. The left-hander has posted a 1.74 ERA while winning all three of his starts this month.
Gonzalez went 1-2 with a 3.16 ERA in five interleague games last season, but both losses came in NL parks, where he surrendered 10 runs in 10 1-3 innings over two outings. He gave up four runs in 5 1-3 innings of a loss at San Francisco on June 11, three weeks after defeating the Giants at home while yielding two hits in eight shutout frames.
San Francisco counters with Jonathan Sanchez (3-3, 3.71), who allowed four runs in a season-high seven-plus innings of a 5-3 loss to Colorado on Tuesday. The left-hander walked none after issuing 14 bases on balls in 16 innings over his previous three outings.
“He threw quality strikes and that was a big improvement for Johnny,” Bochy said. “He was locked in, did a great job.”
Sanchez, who went 2-1 with a 3.57 ERA in four interleague outings last season, is 1-2 with a 3.26 ERA in three career starts against the A’s – all in Oakland.
