St. Louis is 11-5 in Wainright’s last 16 home starts, 6-3 last 9 interleague games, 21-8 last 29 as a home favorite of -151 to -200 and 7-0 in Wainright’s last 7 as a favorite of -151 to -200.
Texas (43-32, 21-17 road, 27-44 O/U) is looking to sweep St. Louis on the road and get revenge for the 2011 World Series. St. Louis (47-28, 22-15 home, 38-34 O/U) had won two straight games before meeting up with Texas. The Rangers received a strong performance from 22-year old lefty Martin Perez on Saturday. Perez held St. Louis to just two runs on five hits and Texas blasted two home runs off of Shelby Miller, who struggled, giving up eight hits in 5 2.3 innings pitched. The Cardinals have their ace going in Adam Wainright, who is 10-4 with a 2.37 ERA this year. He is coming off a mediocre start against the Cubs, allowing for runs in seven innings. Before that start, Wainright had shut out the New York Mets in seven innings. The start against the Cubs was Wainright’s worst since May 4, when he allowed five run at Milwaukee. He goes to the mound against right-handed rookie Nicholas Tepesch (3-6, 4.84 ERA). Tepesch has really struggled in his last three starts, allowing 17 runs against the likes of Oakland, Cleveland and Toronto. His lone start against a National League team came on May 6, when he gave up five runs in four innings against the Cubs. The Cards will take advantage of the rookie and end the series on a winning note. The Rangers visit Busch Stadium on Sunday night at 8:05pmET to take on the Cardinals.
